The different types of guitars to choose from are not just brands, but the real difference is the style of design and what they are used for. There are several types and they fall into one of the following categories.

There are acoustic guitars that fall into three main categories. The first type is the nylon string acoustic which is mainly used for classical styles of music and is traditionally finger picked. The second type is the steel string acoustic which is used for a variety of styles including folk, country and rock, but the steel stringed instrument maybe picked, finger picked or played with thumb picks.Check out this link here. The third type is the acoustic electric guitar which is used for many styles and maybe nylon or steel stringed, but it is distinguished by having a pickup inside the hollow body to amplify it.

There are also electric guitars. These are defined by not having a hollow body generally and they use nickel wound strings. They need amplification and may have several string numbers including six strings, seven strings, 12 strings or double necked guitars having six and 12 strings. Most all electric guitars will be some variation of these listed here.
